We are pleased to announce the 2010 Hispanic/Latino Summit to be held in partnership with the Nebraska Department of Education and the Mexican-American Commission.  This year's conference will be held on September 20th in Omaha, Nebraska at the Embassy Suites Conference Center, just off I-80 at exit 442.  The 2010 Summit  will provide participants an awareness of Latino student achievement successes, challenges and resources to support their school success.
 
Nebraska has experienced a 171% increase in Hispanic/Latino students since 1991. Of the more than 43 languages spoken by English Language Learners, 80% speak Spanish.  As our state demographics change our work is to assure equitable opportunities and hold high expectations for ALL children. We can do this work with all of us working together.
 
Participation of this conference will come from school staff and their students, communities and families.  We are encouraging youth attendance through providing informational sessions on opportunities for post-secondary experiences.
